I have an idea to make college football conferences better. I think that they should be slightly realigned to make them more geographicly consistent. That is, to have schools play schools that are close by. This would really increase some rivalries and make for overall good football. I also think the BCS conferences should be 12 teams with a championship game so that we don't have this crap we have with the Big-Ten and Ohio State not having to play anybody while the Big XII (and other conferences) takes each other out every year with a championship game. And don't even get me started on a playoff. Anyway, here is my idea.
The Big XII loses Colorado and gains Iowa from the Big Ten(it could have gone the other way, lose Iowa St. and gain Colorado St., but this seemed better).
The Pac Ten adds Hawaii and Fresno St from the WAC.
The Big Ten, which actually has eleven teams currently, after losing Iowa, adds Pittsburg and Cincinatti from the Big East. And they have to come up with a new name, possibly one that isn't a lie, as in reflecting the actual number of teams in their conference!
The SEC loses Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina (because they are outside of their proposed geographic region) and gains Georgia Tech (to go with Georgia), Miami (FL) and Florida St.
Then the ACC is where things start getting interesting. In order to keep in-state schools together, a few promotions of lesser schools were necessary. After losing the three schools to the SEC mentioned above and also Boston College will go to the Big East (more on that in a little bit) the ACC adds South Carolina (to go with Clemson) West Virginia (Big East), Marshall, and East Carolina (Both C-USA).
Ok, now the Big East. The only remaining schools are Rutgers, Syracuse, and Connecticut. They add Boston College, Buffalo, Temple, Army, and Navy. They would now be made up of all the schools in the Northeast, from Maine to Maryland and Pennsylvania.
I also have plans for how the WAC, Mountain West, C-USA, Sun Belt and Mid-American Conference would look, but I don't really feel like posting those right now. The only demotions are Colorado to the Mountain West and Kentucky, Louisville, and Vanderbilt to the Sun Belt. I have a whole spreadsheet and a Map of the USA with all the colleges on it if you are interested (I didn't have much to do at work yesterday, sorry).

What about Notre Dame? Add Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati to the Big 10. And still call it the Big 10. Or the Midwest 14? Notre Dame moving to a power conference would make Notre Dame relevant again.
The Big East is not a football conference. Can we relegate them to Div 1-AA?
Until the SEC has the balls to play a road game north of Lexington, KY, I will continue to question the credibility of the league. Anyone can succeed when it's 75 and sunny all year long. Oh wait, Auburn went up to WVU this past year and got hammered. Auburn also had the stones to go to USC a few years ago and got hammered there as well. Yeah, UGA went to Arizona State last year and won, but ASU was down. I refuse to recognize that as a quality non-conference road win.
I propose the Gators or Crimson Tide playing the Buckeyes on a neutral field...in Cleveland, OH...on the first Saturday of December. To be fair to the Southern sissies, OSU will play at Gainesville or Tuscaloosa on the first Saturday of September.
Why aren't there more bowl games played in the snow? Why isn't there a bowl game at Lambeau Field? Wrigley Field? Old/New Tiger Stadium in Detroit. Huge missed opportunity there.
Add Utah and BYU to the Pac 10. Hawaii does not belong. The Sugar Bowl run they had will not be duplicated.
Let's build a conference of "super" mid-majors: Boise, TCU, Tulsa, Fresno, UTEP, App State, Air Force, and sprinkle in a few teams from the Big East - Rutgers, Louisville, South Florida, just for fun.
No real logic here. Just killing some time. Enjoy. Or not.
